Located in Springtown, Texas the town of Carter, also known as Cartersville was founded just after the end of the civil war in 1866-1867. The name comes from the Judge W. F. Carter, one of three town founders(www.texasescapes.com). At one point this town contained about 80 residents and a flour mill, a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, a school, and a church. Some of Carter’s remains entail granite markers that describe different historical events that took place there, including gunfights and Indian raids. According to http://www.paranormalknowledge.com the townspeople often experienced conflict with the local Indians perhaps due to its close proximity to some Indian burial grounds which still exist today. These include some of the last battles between the white men and the Comanche Indians. The only other piece of Carter that still remains standing is the towns old church which also served as the towns school house. This church has been visited by guests such as the Tarrant County Investigators of the Paranormal and others like them.

This is awesome! I've never heard of Cartersville, Texas, but I will have to put it on my "Bucket list for abandoned places I want to visit the most." List. And, I really like the history lesson as well. Thanks for sharing. :D
